Statue of Liberty

Of course, we could not leave New York without a trip on the harbor to view the most famous statue in America. We set out to see lovely Lady Liberty on a quite blustery day. Again, I was carrying my unused laptop, and the security check before getting aboard the ferry included taking apart my laptop in search of mysterious devices. I certainly felt a little awkward about the whole situation.

This cannon was on the mainland by the ticket booth. The ticket booth was located in something resembling a bunker, which seemed kind of out of place to me.

This is a picture of the Staton Island Ferry. Later that evening while visiting with some new friends we'd met, we heard of a crash of the Staton Island Ferry. While I don't know if it happened soon after I took this picture, it was a little frightening to think about because someone had advised Kelly and me to take that ferry instead of the Liberty ferry. For whatever reason, we ignored that advice, and I'm certainly grateful we did.

We got many pictures of the statue from the ferry. However, since they weren't allowing people inside the statue, we decided not to deboard at Liberty Island.

This monument is on the mainland, and we passed by it after leaving the ferry. Interesting, huh?
